Vehicle Safety Traffic accidents have taken the lives of more Americans than all of lives lost in the wars we have fought combined. This is an especially sobering thought considering Americans have been driving for less than half of American history.
I thought I’d take some time to share some things you can do to maximize vehicle safety for you and your family.
Set the Stage for Safety The most significant step you can take to ensure safety on the road is to keep your vehicle in proper operating condition. Following your maintenance schedule will ensure your vehicle operates like it should. For example, regular tire rotation means your tires will not only last longer, they’ll perform better in terms of griping the road, reducing braking distance and improving steering response.
PitStop Please accept my invitation to come in at your convenience for a free PitStop. Within just a few minutes we will check your lights and bulbs, top off your fluids, adjust the air pressure in your tires and answer any questions you may have about your vehicle. Regardless of how far you are accustomed to traveling or what weather you may normally encounter along the way, it makes sense to be prepared for road emergencies. Here’s a short list of items you should keep in your vehicle storage compartment:
Flares or folding reflective triangles to alert other drivers of your position on the road should you break down.
Small fire extinguisher
Thermal blanket in the event help is slowed by weather or unforeseen circumstances
Heavy duty weatherproofed LED flashlight and spare batteries
Plastic poncho
Screwdriver with interchangeable heads (Standard, Phillips and Torx)
Pliers
Basic First Aid Kit
Universal cell phone charger
Whistle
Water and non-perishable food (fruit or granola bars) for extended trips
Stop by anytime and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have about vehicle safety and check or demonstrate any safety features on your vehicle. Stop by for a free child safety seat inspection. For more information about vehicle and driving safety go to www.nhtsa.gov
