PERFORMANCE
Kia Sportage

Power is important when it comes to a compact SUV and, luckily, these two models deliver. However, there are some differences that could help you in making your decision. Let’s take a look at how these SUVs compare.

How Powerful Are These SUVs?

The Kia Sportage comes equipped with a standard 2.5-L 4-cylinder engine that boasts up to 187 horsepower. This powertrain is also paired with the front-wheel drivetrain and an 8-speed automatic transmission. This advanced transmission makes shifting a dream and comes equipped with an overdrive mode.

With the Chevy Equinox, you won’t quite get the same power. This model is outfitted with a smaller standard 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates just 175 horsepower. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, so that shifting is not as streamlined and simple.

How Much Can You Tow?

You'll also find an available all-wheel drive (AWD) system with either the Sportage or the Equinox. However, you’ll be capable of towing up to 2,500 pounds with the Sportage.

Even when the Equinox is equipped with one of its available, more powerful engines, this SUV can only tow a maximum of 1,500 pounds.

INTERIOR
Kia Sportage

Whether you're taking on the highway or cruising the back roads, you'll want to be as comfortable as possible. Your comfort can be impacted by multiple things, such as the amenities or the dimensions of the cabin.

Luxurious Interiors

Fortunately, the Kia Sportage delivers a variety of luxurious interior features. When you step inside, you and your passengers will be met with optimal coziness thanks to heated front seats available in every trim level. You can add even more with 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats—all standard on certain trims of the Sportage.

Many of these features are, unfortunately, not offered in the Chevy Equinox. For instance, you'll have to settle for an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat, which is only available in the higher trims. Plus, ventilated seats don't come standard on any trim, only as an available option.

Space to Get Comfortable

When it comes to roominess in these models, the same theme continues. The Kia Sportage offers an interior that gives up to five passengers plenty of space to stretch out. On the other hand, the Equinox can also hold up to five passengers, but you might be left wanting a little more room.

SAFETY
Kia Sportage

Safety is a priority for most, if not all, SUV drivers. Both Kia and Chevrolet know this is important, and they make sure that, not only are you and your passengers secure within the vehicles, but others on the road around you are safe as well.

Safety Comes Standard

With the Kia Sportage and the Chevy Equinox, you can have peace of mind while you drive. Both vehicles come equipped with standard:

  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Traction Control Systems
  • Anti-Lock Braking Systems
  • Rearview cameras

Other shared features include standard Lane Keeping Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, and more. However, the Kia Sportage takes safety a step further with the addition of its suite of progressive driving aids.

Sportage Safety

Several advanced safety features can be equipped on every trim level of the Kia Sportage. These include Rear Occupant Alert and Driver Attention Warning.

While equivalent features like Rear Occupant Alert are standard in the Chevrolet Equinox, there's no Driver Attention Warning available at all. This Kia feature will monitor your driving behaviors and alert you if it notices any changes that may indicate you need to take a break.
