If those deliverables fit the bill, then you’re going to fall in love with the 2023 Kia Sorento and the 2023 Hyundai Tucson. However, you can only choose one. Our Feldman Kia team will help you and other Novi, Livonia, and Southfield, MI, drivers decide with the following comparison.

You’ve got lake days, camping adventures, road trips, and so many more journeys on the horizon. To get going, all you need is a good travel plan, a well-rounded itinerary, and the Sorento or the Tucson. With ample space in either SUV, you’ll be able to enjoy your trips with your favorite people and all the essentials.
You’ve picked out a campground. You’ve got firewood, sleeping bags, and coolers packed. Who’s joining you? If your camping crew exceeds five people, choose the Kia Sorento. This SUV can tote up to seven passengers, while the Hyundai taps out at five.
Despite this seating difference, you’ll find cloth upholstery standard on either SUV, allowing your companions to sink into comfort.
Although these SUVs are sized differently, they offer similar amounts of cargo space. However, when comparing how much space they have behind the second row, the Kia offers more:
- Sorento Cargo Volume (behind second row): up to 45 cubic feet
- Tucson Cargo Volume (behind second row): up to 41.2 cubic feet
Add one-touch sliding & folding second-row seats on top of the Sorento’s additional cargo room and opening up space will be easier than ever. The Tucson also has 60/40 split fold-down second-row seats; however, you may have to manually adjust them to your liking.
Need to make up some lost time after departing late on your road trip? Was the Detroit traffic in full force? Ready to boost your next adventure by bringing along a towable toy? The sheer power and grit provided by the Sorento and the Tucson will keep you ahead of schedule and provide all the brawn you need.
At their base level, the Kia and the Hyundai both have a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Even so, the Kia’s engine outputs 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, while the Hyundai’s engine produces 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. Although the difference is small, you may experience more oomph when you press the Sorento’s accelerator.
This is the only engine on the Hyundai Tucson. The Kia Sorento, though, has an available 2.5-liter turbocharged engine available for higher trims. It cranks out 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. On top of thrilling acceleration, this powertrain will help you roll with the punches.
With their standard engines, the Sorento and the Tucson can tow up to 2,000 pounds, which is the equivalent of a pop-up tent trailer, a small aluminum boat, a lightly loaded utility trailer, or a jet ski.
If you have a larger item at home, like a lightweight travel trailer, a pop-up camper, a small fishing boat, or a utility trailer filled with dirt bikes, you may prefer the Kia Sorento. When properly equipped, this Kia SUV can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The Hyundai taps out at 2,000 pounds.
As you’re staring down a long commute, you’ll want to make sure you’re entertained. No matter if you prefer to listen to rock playlists, paranormal podcasts, or romance audiobooks, the Kia and the Hyundai offer impressive infotainment setups to make sure you’ll enjoy your time on the open road.
Behind the wheel of either SUV, you’ll find instrument clusters that measure over four inches. To your right, you’ll find an 8-inch touchscreen display as well. With an upgrade to a higher trim level, this platform grows to a 10.25-inch display in either model!
Their instrument clusters also increase. For instance, the Hyundai can equip a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. However, the Kia takes the lead here with its available 12.3-inch instrument display. Your vital vehicle information will look crystal-clear.
Your listening experience will also be crisp and clear in either SUV. In fact, each vehicle has an available Bose® Premium Audio System that will bring your favorite music, podcasts, and audiobooks to life! However, the Kia’s audio system offers 12 speakers, while the Hyundai’s falls short with just eight speakers. You’ll fully enjoy an immersive experience in the Sorento.
